Wellington's Sky Stadium was brought to life on a waterfront site in the heart of the city in 2000. Few stadia in New Zealand can claim as much sporting heritage Sky Stadium.

The ground is hosting its third World Cup, following the 2011 Rugby World Cup, the Cricket World Cup in 2015 and now the FIFA Women's Football World Cup. Since its opening in 2000, a host of rugby union, cricket and Australian rules football teams have all played their matches at the ground.

New Zealand football club Wellington Phoenix have called the venue home since 2008. The venue holds the distinction of hosting one the greatest night in New Zealand sporting history, when the All Whites beat Bahrain to send the All Whites to the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

Outside of sport, numerous international performers have travelled to the banks of Wellington Harbour to perform with the likes of AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Ed Sheeran and Guns N' Roses having all held events at the venue.
