Redwoods Treehouse
The challenge issued by Yellow to Pacific Environments,
Architects, was to design a restaurant in a tree.
The result is a striking pod-shaped structure built ten metres
high in a redwood tree near Warkworth, north of Auckland. Access to
the Redwoods Treehouse is provided by an
elevated tree-top walkway. Parts of the walkway are built using
redwood milled on site. The vertical fins and slats are built from
sustainably grown pine and poplar.
The restaurant operated from December 2008 to February 2009 as
part of a Yellow advertising campaign.
At the conclusion of the campaign, ownership of the Treehouse
passed to the landowner. They have obtained resource consent to use
the venue for private/corporate functions and events, rather than
as a restaurant.
The Treehouse seats 30 guests.
